The teacher understands the music learning brain

If the brain is like a car, then the music teacher is like a driving instructor.  Therefore, you want them to understand how a car works.

As we will get into in the next chapter, there are very specific ways that the brain can do really hard work with joy.  You can think of this like getting the most out of a journey, and knowing enough about driving to make a long car trip a fun adventure rather than a boring slog.  When you understand the different functions of the brain and how to hack them for joy, then the work that you do in a music classroom isn’t frustrating or boring; it’s exhilarating.

When a music teacher understands the brain well, they will

• Explain concepts in a fun, engaging way,

• Create assignments that kids are excited to do,

• Be very capable of helping students with frustration and boredom,

• Make performances easy and fun, erasing stage fright..
